This new book  of 128 pages sized 28x21,5 cm is the first monograph in English language about this subject.
  • The first chapter of the new book of Gordon and Dexter is about the history of the Mikoyan bureau and the development of  I-200; 25 photos of the prototypes, including excellent details, are shown.
  • The second chapter describes the MiG-3 development and technical description, with 30 photos of prototypes, details and assembling line.
  • The third chapter is about operative MiG-3s, and includes 35 photos, both of  German and of Russian origin.
  • The fourth chapter is about experimental versions, including MiG-3 AM-38, MiG-3 M-82A (I-210) and MiG-9Ye (I-211),  with 17 photos, including one of a mysterious six bladed propeller.
  • The fifth chapter is about MiG-3U, I-230 and I-231, with 17 photos.
  • The sixth chapter  is about the I-220-221-222-224-225 with 40 photos.
  • The seventh chapter is about the mixed propulsion MiG-13 with 18 images.
  • The eighth chapter is about the twin-engined fighter MiG-5, of which two prototypes were built; it includes seven photos.
  • 10 pages contain excellent line drawings of the I-200 prototypes and MiG-3 (early and late type).
  • 6 pages of colour profiles close the book. These profiles are not fully satisfying, both for colours,  both for accuracy of version and details to the original photos; they seems to be copied from other profiles instead than from photos, sometimes adding further errors. For example, we see an unbelievable red 02 with a black engine cowling…

The book gives an excellent textual description of  all the subjects, by far more detailed than the previous excellent book of the same author “Soviet combat aircraft of the Second World War”  and other publications; the most of its 197 photos is of excellent quality, and dozens of them were new for me (I collect photos of MiGs since some years ago…).
I would say that this book  is a must for whoever is interested in MiGs. One has not to fear to find only a lot of images already seen on other sources.
The only things that let me unsatisfied are the poor quality of colour profiles and the lack of 3-view drawings of all the aircrafts described, apart for I-200 and MiG-3s.
